چکیده
Abstract Virtual reality has great potential to enable remote collaborative work from anywhere in the world. Developing virtual into a platform suitable for natural interaction and immersive collaboration requires experience be reliably stable. For networked environment, perceived smoothness of motion is limited by tick rate, that is, frequency at which information distributed. As rate increases, will appear increasingly smooth; however, excessive rates may introduce additional load on network without any perceptible benefit user. This paper details two visual psychophysics experiments ( $$N_1 = 16$$ N 1 = 16 , $$N_2 11$$ 2 11 ) carried out evaluate participant sensitivity reality. The influence three variables, velocity, complexity, digital medium were investigated. Both velocity displayed significant effect, whilst complexity did not show significance. A model was then built validated results these experiments. predicts average walking speed within desktop condition, 90% population perceive smooth 56 Hz, this threshold lies 113 Hz VR condition. can predict perception under given conditions, enabling networks intelligently optimise adding unnecessary further network.

John Dilworth [Philosophical Psychology 23(2010), pp. 23-42] Realistic uses of Virtual Reality (VR) technology closely integrate user training on virtual objects with VR-assisted user interactions with real objects. This paper shows how the Interactive Theory of Perception (ITP) may be extended to cover such cases. Virtual objects are explained as concrete models (CMs) that have an inner genera...

This paper presents a detailed overall view about research done in Distributed Virtual Reality using multiprocessor systems. It results from an extensive survey in the world{ wide existing News system made in the very beginning of 1993 and by a search through the relevant literature. Therefore the most important Parallel Computing concepts are introduced.
